Saintpaulia (now a section of genus Streptocarpus), commonly known as African violet, is one of the most popular flowering houseplants.  African violets are easy to grow.  African violets adapt well to typical growing conditions found in the home.  They are well suited for small spaces, such as windowsills.  African violets come in different sizes. Miniatures (6" or less), Semi-miniatures(8" or less), Standards (8"-12" ) and Large (over 12").  Blossoms come in many colors and color patterns.  Such as two-tone, multi-color, chimera and pin-wheel.  Blossom types also vary from single, double and semi-double.  The blossoms shapes come in bell, pansy, star and wasp form. Even the foliage (leaves) come in different types.  For example, fringed, quilted, girl, serrated, plain, variegated and many more.
